I loved  the excitement of playing Miss Andrew in Tauranga Musical Theatre’s production of Mary Poppins at the end of 2017. It was wonderful to share the stage with eight previous and present pupils. In particular, Neve Hunt in the company and Jade Newton who played Jane Banks.

In January this year, I was the mentor for Musical Director, Ethan Thorburn for 16th Avenue Theatre’s Youth pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk. Sasha Van Beek had her stage debut as part of the company. Also in January was Tauranga Musical Theatre’s Youth production of Wizard of Oz where Rosie Pua had her stage debut.

The first College show of the year was Tauranga Girls’ and Boys’ College’s production of Beauty and the Beast. This show had superb vocals and an impressive line up of talent. Toby Langdon played a wonderful Cogsworth. Equally good performers were previous students Morgan Barrimore as Mrs Potts and Katie Oliver as a silly girl with Ella Westenberg in the company.

Coming up is the Stage Right’s production of Shrek. Rosie Pua is Cinders, Anna Domett is Humpty Dumpty and Jade Newton is young Princess Fiona and Tinkerbell. This show has a great cast. Also recently announced is the cast for Tauranga Musical Theatre’s production of Heathers. Maggie Peters has been cast in her first show as part of the company.

The studio has recitals soon to help the students prepare for Trinity College Exams in June and Tauranga Performing Arts Competitions in July.
